Timeliness is the most important news value in sports journalism. If you’re not the first to a story, you might as well be last. Fans forget fast, especially when stories can become old news in mere days or even hours. Being there for the consumer as soon as possible allows your writing to have the most interest and interactions.

Bizarreness is the least important news value in sports journalism in my opinion. This value is the most optional of the ones on the list as a story doesn’t need a bizarre element to do its job. It might help bring attention to your writing but it's not required.
