Columbus is known for “finding” America, while this hurts his reputation I believe that overall Columbus helped the world in many ways. Others might think that I’m backing the wrong horse, but there are many reasons as to why he was positive for the world.
Christopher was born in 1451 in Italy. He set off with three ships the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria in 1492 from Spain with hopes of finding a way to the Indies by sailing. While he didn’t accomplish that goal, it wasn’t a complete failed voyage. He had stumbled across the Bahama Islands. The Bahamas had been unknown to Spain until Columbus and his crew found it.
By request from Spain, Columbus started a settlement and claimed land for Spain. He traded with the group of Native people, he returned to Spain with potatoes and maize, more commonly known as corn. It grew well in the eastern hemisphere and it was healthier than what they were eating.
Columbus has been a part of history for a while. What is debatable is if he made a positive impact on history. Hopefully now you see that once his time on Earth was done, he helped the Earth evolve into what it is today.
